We treated ourselves to afternoon tea at the Howard Hotel in London on Saturday. They were launching their special TLSee afternoon tea so along with the usual sandwiches, cakes etc we were presented with a wonderful plate of London icons - Big Ben, St Pauls etc. We couldn't eat our way through the whole lot so plucked up the courage to ask to bring the rest away - they didn't turn a hair! For once this afternoon tea lived up to expectations. So many of the afternoon teas on offer are really very bad indeed and I feel sorry for all the tourists who think that they are the 'norm'. Scones are hardly difficult to make so I resent paying £30 or more in some cases for a 'luxury' afternoon at a London venue to find that the scones have been microwaved or bought in from outside source!
